There is a set of Affiliation Bye-laws fixed by CBSE to grant affiliation to applying schools. First and foremost a school has to be running before it applies for affiliation. For your school to be affiliated with CBSE there are some minimum infrastructure pre-requisites that you would need to fulfil first, which are as follows:.
The school must own a minimum area of land specified as per its location and the region it stands in. The premise must hold a constructed building on one part of the land and ample playing and open space on the remaining part of the land.
As per CBSE Affiliation norms, a school situated in a hilly area or in a city with total population of more than 25 lakhs, the minimum land required for the school is 1 acre. While for schools in cities with resident population of less than 25 lakhs, the land area should not be less than 2 lakhs.
The trust or society running the school must be registered beforehand and the land for the school should also be registered with the name of this society. If you do not own the land, it should have been leased to the same society for a period of 30 years at least. This lease period can be less than 30 years only in case the land has been allotted by the Govt. or a govt. agency.
There are a different set of norms for schools seeking affiliation in Delhi. For senior secondary schools with classes from pre-primary to XII offering 4 streams the minimum land requirement is 4000 sq. mts. and that for those offering 2 streams is 3000 sq. mts. The secondary schools with classes from pre-primary to X should have a minimum land area of 2000 sq. mts.
The school should have class rooms big enough to provide at least the floor space of 1 sq. mtr. to each student individually along with all proper facilities for the children. The school must also have all the basic facilities required for the physically challenged students like chairs, elevators or slopes, etc.
There should be ample and suitable furniture like chairs tables, lecture stands, cupboards, desks, organising stands, etc. for the classrooms, faculty rooms, and office to match the needs and comfort of all the students, teachers and staff.
There must also be proper space for extracurricular activities like stage area, sports ground, courts, etc. with the needed equipment and facilities. The school must also suffice the imparting of technical and vocational knowledge to the students by keeping adequate equipment.
There should be a minimum of 1 computer lab in the school. And the lab should be well equipped with a good internet connection, minimum 10 computers or computer to students ratio of 1:20. The school must also have a spacious library with 1500 books and 15 magazines at least. The student to book ratio has to be maintained at 1:5 by the school authorities.
Proper certifications have to be taken from local authorities for safety of children, safe drinking water and sanitation, hygienic and healthy environment etc. The school must also fulfill all the standards set by the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 about teacher to student ratio, school basic infrastructure requirements, minimum working hours and required equipment in the school premises.
